SBA + Elected Officials Present Quick Pickle Kit Team with Awards

The SBA awarded Andrea Wasko and Meaghan Gilbert, owners of Los Osos based Connoisseur Creations, Inc., their 2019 Small Business Persons of the Year for the SBA’s 15 county San Joaquin Valley and Central Coast region. This is a “Big Dill” for SLO as it is the first time that a business from San Luis Obispo County has received this award. Congressman Salud Carbajal, Keilah Smith, District Director for Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham and Supervisor Bruce Gibson also presented awards honoring Andrea and Meaghan.

“The SBA is proud to recognize Andrea and Meaghan as our 2019 Small Business Persons of the Year,” said Fresno District Director Dawn Golik. “Connoisseur Creations is a great success story about how SBA programs including Women Business Centers, provide free assistance to help woman owned companies start up, scale up, and succeed.” Connoisseur Creations will continue to celebrate National Small Business Week through May 11 and their SBA award for the remainder of 2019.

Connoisseur Creations was selected because of their business philosophy of giving back and helping others. Connoisseur Creations donates part of the Quick Pickle Kit and Spice Packet sales on their website to nonprofit agencies and their products are assembled by disabled adults. QuickPickleKit.com promotes health and reduces food waste.

Established in 1996, Connoisseur Creations’ flagship product, the Quick Pickle Kit, uses 4th generation recipes from Andrea’s family. This #smallbusiness success story is kind of a big dill because it’s National Pickle Day 😉 Andrea Wasko and Meaghan Gilbert started their woman-owned small business Connoisseur Creations in 1996. The company’s flagship product, the @quickpicklekit, uses 100 year old family recipes that allow customers to make #pickles in just a few days. Connoisseur Creations used assistance from SBA resource partner, Mission Community Services Corporation, which is a Women’s Business Center in San Luis Obispo to help them make the decision to relocate their company from the Bay Area to California’s Central Coast. The Women’s Business Center also helped connect Andrea and Meaghan to commercial kitchens, co-packers, and warehouses to support production of their products. Connoisseur Creations has strong company values with a focus on health and giving back to the community. The business provides jobs for developmentally disabled adults, and donates 10% of their gross website sales to nonprofit agencies. By collaborating with farmers and Community Supported Agriculture organizations, Connoisseur Creations is also helping reduce food waste by showing consumers how pickling preserves excess produce, and creates delicious snacks from blemished food.
