Each year, this award is presented to a local company that enhances the positive image of small business through service to their customers and to their community. The Quick Pickle Kit is a great example of social entrepreneurship and willingness to give back. 

The Quick Pickle Kit is a safe, quick, simple and natural way to make pickles that are ready to enjoy in just a few days. You can pickle any vegetable! Pickles made with the Quick Pickle Kit are a healthy, low-sodium, low-calorie, crunchy and satiating snack. Andrea Wasko and Meaghan Gilbert, who have been developing and launching new products for over 30 years at companies including Apple Computer, Boston Scientific, Cisco Systems and Eli Lilly, developed this innovative product. They utilized Georgianna’s (Andrea’s Mother who lives in Hermitage, PA) recipes that have been in the family for over 100 years. “I started canning vegetables at a young age with my Mother in Pennsylvania. She always stressed the importance of not wasting food and referred to people around the world who didn’t have enough food. She must have learned this concept from her grandparents, who were immigrants from Eastern Europe. When the garden was ready, we had an overabundance of vegetables that needed to be enjoyed or preserved. We canned the vegetables before they went bad and stored them in the fruit cellar for months until they were ready,” states Wasko. 

Once Andrea made her home in California, she looked for pickles that were crispy, not too salty or vinegary and great tasting. She couldn’t find any and her busy schedule rarely left her with time to make pickles using traditional laborious canning methods. Determined to enjoy pickles, she developed the Quick Pickle Kit. Their FDA-approved process for safety yields great tasting crunchy pickles in a fraction of the time and with minimal effort.
